Rachel sneaks into the auditorium and sees Quinn sitting by the piano, gently tapping at the keys. She takes a deep breath before marching over.
“Are you and Finn together?” This takes a lot of courage for her to ask. It had been plaguing her mind for days.
Quinn looks up, surprised. She wasn’t expecting this. Rachel wasn’t one for confrontation. She hesitates before answering.
“Yes..its been a couple weeks…”
Rachel’s expression almost makes her want to change her mind, leave Finn and go back to where she belonged; with Rachel. But that’s why she was doing this. She didn’t belong with her. Not anymore. Quinn stands up and takes a step towards the brunette. She was starting to hate this distance. Rachel shakes her head and takes a step back.
“Why are you doing this? It was real between us. Why are you throwing it all away!?”
Quinn snaps then. Why wasn’t she getting it?
“Because I’m not good enough for you, okay! You want to know how this story plays out? I stay here with Finn and start a family. I’ll become a..successful real-estate agent…and Finn will take over Kurt’s dads repair shop. You don’t belong here, Rachel, and you can’t hate me for helping to send you on your way. You’re going to go to New York and you’re going to become famous and forget all about me! It’s easier for us in the long run if this happens now”.
Quinn is struggling to maintain control. She can’t afford to cry. If Rachel see’s even an ounce of doubt, she won’t let go, and Quinn doesn’t know if she’s strong enough to keep refusing her.
“No. You don’t get to make that decision. I’m not giving up on us. It’s not over!”
Quinn screams with exasperation. She has to end this now.
“Yes it is! God, you’re so frustrating! Stop living in this little school girl fantasy of life! Rachel, if you keep looking for that happy ending then you are never going to get it right!”
Rachel’s getting desperate. Quinn can tell by the way she’s clenching her fists and biting her lip.
“B-but..I love you. Doesn’t that count for anything?”
Over the past year, Quinn’s become a excellent liar. I’m fine… I don’t need anyone… It all started to come easy to her.But the lie Quinn tells next is the hardest thing she’s ever had to say in her life.
“No.. “
Rachel’s eyes widen and a tear falls from her cheek. Quinn can feel her heart breaking.
“Oh…Well that changes things. You’re right. Maybe this is for the best. Goodbye Quinn”. Nodding at her, she turns and leaves. Quinn can hear her sobs resonating throughout the large space, as she runs through the large door, slamming it shut behind her.
It was over. Quinn had never felt more broken in her life.
